Skin Rejuvenation Vs. Skin Resurfacing: What’s The Difference?

Aesthetics Daily – Radiant, smooth skin with no visible signs of aging makes a person look younger than he/she really is. But anyone can not avoid skin aging as they age. The effects of aging are more noticable, especially if you are often exposed to direct sunlight for a long time.

As a result, people can be at risk for various skin problems such as hyperpigmentation, uneven skin, sun spots, wrinkles, sagging skin and fine lines. Numerous skin problems if not cared for properly can affect one’s appearance. Even worse, a person’s self-confidence can also severely be affected by them.

To overcome these skin problems, there are types of cosmetic procedures called skin rejuvenation and skin resurfacing. These two popular terms in the aesthetic industry are often used interchangeably whereas they are actually two different things.

Skin rejuvenation refers to any procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the skin. Meanwhile, skin resurfacing is related to procedures that physically remove the top layer of skin Therefore, skin resurfacing falls into the type of skin rejuvenation.

Skin Rejuvenation

Any procedure aimed at making the skin look better than before is called skin rejuvenation. It doesn’t really bring you back to your youth but rather helps your skin to regain its elasticity, hydration and volume that may have gradually decreased over time.

Some rejuvenation treatments involve injectables including Botox, and all forms of fillers that use either hyaluronic or non-hyaluronic acid. Botox and dermal fillers are used to reduce wrinkles and help smooth the skin’s texture.

Dermal fillers aim to rejuvenate the skin by shrinking sagging areas due to loss of collagen and elastin in the skin. While skinbooster can hydrate the skin from the inside out.

Topical products applied over the skin surface also help rejuvenate the skin. They include various skincare products such as vitamin C serum, retinol, and hydroquinone.

Skin rejuvenation can be performed using various techniques ranging from chemical peels to laser therapy. Skin resurfacing is also a type of treatment to rejuvenate the skin. In addition, there are light therapies such as intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy and LED light therapy which make the skin smoother and look younger.

Skin Resurfacing

Falling into the type of skin rejuvenation, skin resurfacing physically removes the top layer of the skin. This process also includes the removal of dead skin cells and dirt that sticks to the skin. Some cosmetic procedures focus on the skin’s surface while others can penetrate deeper into the skin layers.

You need to be aware, the deeper the layer of skin being targeted, the longer the recovery process and the higher the risk. Some of the most common types of skin resurfacing treatments include laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels.

In laser resurfacing treatments, the depth and intensity of the laser treatment can be customized to control how much skin needs to be removed. To ensure comfort and reduce pain during treatment, a topical anesthetic is usually used.

Various types of acids are used in chemical peels to exfoliate the top layer of skin. Chemical peels are a type of skin resurfacing treatment to remove fine lines that are widely offered at aesthetic clinics or beauty salons.

While in a microdermabrasion treatment, the esthetician uses a handheld device to spray tiny crystals onto the skin. Microdermabrasion also uses a vacuum suction device to remove used crystals and dead skin cells. To scrub the skin, some microdermabrasion treatments use a diamond-tipped wand.

Summary

Skin rejuvenation – including skin resurfacing – is a great way to minimize wrinkles and fine lines. In this way, you can likely keep your skin youthful and free of visible signs of aging. However, you should not miss a proper skin care routine.

You also need to apply a healthy lifestyle and habits to keep your skin rejuvenated. These include regular exercise, getting good sleep, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and maintaining a healthy diet.

Thanks for also talking about what I should be expecting from the recovery period when getting skin rejuvenation treatments. I’d like to talk to a doctor about that soon because my skin hasn’t been doing that well these past few months. It’s gotten very dry and easily damaged.
