Advantages of a Pico Laser Treatment for Your Skin Beauty
Aesthetics Daily – The use of laser technology in the aesthetic industry is very helpful for dermatologists and medical practitioners to treat various skin conditions. Pico laser or picosecond laser is a medical grade device that is now widely used in aesthetic clinics all over the world.
Dr. Agni Adina as Aesthetic Doctor of Sabrina Beauty Care explains that pico laser commonly used for skin treatment has unique wavelenghts of light and dedicated lenses. Pico laser has various wavelengths including 532nm, 755nm and 1064nm which can be adjusted according to the patient’s skin type and condition.
“The aim of this procedure is to convert laser energy into gentle pressure which promotes collagen and elastin production without burning or even damaging the skin,” says Dr. Agni. Pico laser treatment is useful for making the skin more radiant, rejuvenating the skin, removing tattoos, and shrinking pores.
This procedure involves a microdermabrasion process that targets the top layer of the skin to remove tattoos as well as dirt, oils and dead skin cells that have accumulated on the skin. Next, chemical treatments on the top layer of skin are removed with a substance called an astringent.
Before getting pico laser treatment, patients should consult with a doctor first. “When the patient comes to the clinic, we will analyze his/her facial skin and needs. What is certain, the patient’s face will be cleansed first before using laser. We determine whether the patient needs facial treatment or not. Then, the area being treated is given anesthesia,” explains Dr. Agni.
After giving anesthesia, the doctor chooses the type of laser lens that best suits the patient’s condition and needs. The laser lens is sterilized before use. Both patients and doctors wear protective goggles to shield the eyes from the exposure of laser beam.
Usually, during the treatment which lasts about 15 minutes, the patient only feels light warmth accompanied by patchy redness in the treated area. “The feeling of warmth will disappear within 15 minutes and the redness will gradually disappear within 4 to 12 hours,” adds Dr. Agni.
Apart from skin rejuvenation and tattoo removal, pico laser can also be used to remove permanent makeup, reduce visible signs of aging, treat acne scars, and improve melasma.
“Usually, I always educate patients, 8 hours post-treatment in the treated area, don’t touch water,” says Dr. Agni. The reason, this is the optimal time to increase the production of collagen and elastin.
Dr. Agni explains that the 755nm wavelength provides tens of times more effective results than other types of laser treatment. In about 3 days after pico laser treatment, patients will notice their skin is brighter and the skin texture is smoother than before. While acne scars will fade in approximately 3 weeks.
Patients who wish to receive treatment must ensure that they are not in a state of severely active acne. While those who suffer from purulent acne or pustules are advised not to get treatment. “Patients need to treat their acne first, then get a pico laser treatment,” explains Dr. Agni.
She continues, “After pico laser session, the patient needs to avoid excessive sun exposure such as sunbathing on the beach, doing outdoor activities, swimming and others. But the patient can carry out daily activities such as going to work or school because the downtime is very minimal.”
In one treatment, patients can immediately see the results. However, for more optimal results, the treatment needs to be repeated up to 3 times with a minimum interval of 2 weeks depending on the patient’s condition and needs.
